Meet Dr. Hadley McPherson: Expanding Child, Adolescent & Young Adult Psychiatry in Virginia
Now Accepting New Patients Ages 4–30
Resilience Counseling & Social Skills Center is pleased to welcome Hadley McPherson, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Child, Adolescent & Young Adult Psychiatry.
Dr. McPherson provides psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and young adults ages 4–30, expanding access to specialized psychiatric evaluation and treatment for families throughout Virginia.
As part of the Resilience Psychiatry & Medication Management team, Dr. McPherson provides individualized psychiatric care with an emphasis on understanding the whole patient—not simply treating a collection of symptoms.
Meet Hadley McPherson, MD
Dr. McPherson is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialized training in the psychiatric care of children and adolescents.
After completing her general psychiatry residency in Miami, Florida, Dr. McPherson pursued additional specialized training through a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
Her approach begins with listening.
Dr. McPherson takes time to understand each patient's medical and psychiatric history, current symptoms, developmental stage, family environment, school or occupational functioning, relationships, stressors, and the life experiences that may be contributing to their current concerns.
From there, she works collaboratively with patients and families to develop an individualized treatment plan based on the patient's needs.
Specialized Psychiatry for Children, Teens & Young Adults
Mental health concerns can present very differently throughout childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood.
A child's difficulty concentrating, for example, does not automatically mean that they have ADHD. Changes in sleep, anxiety, depression, trauma, learning difficulties, family stressors, medical conditions, and other factors can sometimes produce similar symptoms.
A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation considers these factors together.
Dr. McPherson evaluates and treats a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral health concerns, including:
ADHD and attention difficulties
Anxiety disorders
Depression
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Mood disorders
Bipolar disorder
Trauma-related disorders and PTSD
Behavioral and emotional concerns
Aggression
Psychosis
Insomnia and sleep-related concerns
Other psychiatric concerns affecting children, adolescents, and young adults
When medication may be appropriate, Dr. McPherson works with patients and families to discuss treatment options, potential benefits and risks, and how medication may fit within the patient's broader treatment plan.
Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in the Greater Richmond Area
Dr. McPherson's addition to Resilience further expands our ability to provide specialized psychiatric services to families throughout the Richmond, Glen Allen, Henrico, Midlothian, Chesterfield, and surrounding Central Virginia communities.
Resilience has established mental health practices throughout the Richmond and Fredericksburg regions, allowing patients and families to access counseling, psychotherapy, psychiatry, medication management, and psychological services within a multidisciplinary behavioral healthcare organization.
For families seeking a child or adolescent psychiatrist, this integrated model can be particularly valuable.
Many children and teenagers benefit from having multiple professionals involved in their care. With appropriate patient or parent/guardian authorization, psychiatric providers can collaborate with therapists and other healthcare professionals to help coordinate treatment.
Patients who already have an established therapist outside of Resilience are also welcome to receive psychiatric services while continuing therapy with their existing clinician.
Telehealth Psychiatry Throughout Virginia
Families do not have to live in Richmond or near a Resilience office to receive care from Dr. McPherson.
Eligible patients can access Dr. McPherson's psychiatric services through telehealth throughout Virginia, making specialized child, adolescent, and young adult psychiatric care available to families across the Commonwealth.
Telehealth can be particularly helpful for families who live farther from major metropolitan areas, have demanding school or work schedules, experience transportation challenges, or simply prefer the convenience of attending psychiatric appointments from home.
A Collaborative Approach to Psychiatric Care
Psychiatric treatment is rarely one-size-fits-all.
Dr. McPherson uses evidence-based medicine while considering the individual circumstances of each patient and family. Treatment may involve psychiatric evaluation, ongoing psychiatric care, medication management when clinically appropriate, psychoeducation, behavioral recommendations, and collaboration with other professionals involved in the patient's care.
Her goal is to create an environment where patients and families feel heard, understood, and actively involved in treatment decisions.
Part of Resilience's Growing Virginia Psychiatry Team
Dr. McPherson joins Resilience's multidisciplinary Psychiatry & Medication Management team as we continue expanding access to psychiatric services throughout Virginia.
Resilience provides mental health services across five Virginia locations—Glen Allen, Richmond City, Midlothian, Stafford, and Fredericksburg—along with telehealth services throughout Virginia.
Our broader team includes psychiatrists, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and other behavioral health professionals.
This allows us to help patients access different levels and types of outpatient mental healthcare while maintaining an emphasis on individualized treatment.
