Doctor of Medicine (Starting Fall 2026)

Dr. Hadley McPherson, MD

Dr. Hadley McPherson, MD, is a board-certified Psychiatrist who treats children, teenagers, and young adults ranging from 4-30 years of age. Dr. McPherson wants her patients and their families to feel heard. She takes the time to obtain a detailed medical and psychiatric history, understand her patient’s stressors, and learn about the life experiences that have shaped them. She uses evidenced-based medicine to treat a wide range of psychiatric illnesses, including but not limited to, depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, aggression, insomnia, and ADHD. She provides psychoeducation, behavioral interventions, and therapeutic support in her visits and will additionally counsel families on resources beyond medication when appropriate. As a parent herself, she recognizes the difficulty of coordinating medical care around school and work schedules and thus offers after hours appointments virtually in addition to regular office hours.

Dr. McPherson secured her Bachelor of Science at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas with formative medical experiences abroad in Tanzania and Croatia. She then earned her Medical Doctorate at American University of the Caribbean, in which she trained in St. Maarten, England, California, and New York. She completed her psychiatric residency in Miami, Florida and then, spurred by her passion to work with children, further specialized by finishing the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. During her 13 years of training at home and abroad she saw a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders and has used this experience to become a culturally competent, trauma informed, and LGBTQIA+ affirming attending physician.

Outside of her clinical work, Dr. McPherson enjoys adventuring around Richmond with her family and friends by attending the theatre, local festivals, museums, and Flying Squirrels games. She also loves painting and spending quality time with her many cats and one very large dog.
