NURSE PRACTITIONER
Heidi Nealey, PMHNP-BC
Heidi Nealey is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 33 years of nursing experience and extensive expertise in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management across the lifespan. She brings a depth of clinical knowledge shaped by decades of work in inpatient, residential, outpatient, and academic settings.
Heidi earned her Post-Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Herzing University and holds a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from George Mason University. She is licensed as a PMHNP in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based, and patient-centered psychiatric care.
Her clinical experience includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, medication initiation and ongoing management, and therapeutic support. Heidi has worked in a wide range of settings including sub-acute and residential mental health programs, outpatient psychiatric practices, and hospital-based psychiatric units. She has specialized experience supporting women, men, and veterans, and is skilled in treating complex and co-occurring mental health conditions.
In addition to her clinical work, Heidi has held numerous leadership, management, and educational roles throughout her career. She has served as a course coordinator and didactic behavioral health instructor, adjunct faculty and clinical instructor, unit educator, case manager, and assistant nurse manager. She is passionate about mentoring and has extensive experience precepting nurse practitioners and guiding new clinicians in documentation, treatment planning, and professional development.
Heidi has also played a key role in developing and implementing evidence-based psychiatric and detoxification programs, including staff education initiatives, policy development, and utilization of CIWA and COWS protocols. Her background in utilization review and insurance appeals further strengthens her ability to advocate effectively for patients within complex healthcare systems.
