Elsbeth McCormick, MSW, Supervisee In Social Work

Elsbeth McCormick is a Supervisee in Social Work who received her B.S. in Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. After being in the social work field for several years and helping at-risk students successfully move through school, Elsbeth enrolled at Indiana Wesleyan University and obtained her Masters in Social Work. While working on her master’s degree, Elsbeth was placed at a non-profit where she facilitated counseling with survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Issues such as these that tend to particularly affect women and children are close to Elsbeth’s heart, and she is passionate about bringing individuals on a healing journey in a safe environment.

Elsbeth’s past experience has included providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, managing behavioral and emotional challenges in the classroom with children of all ages, and helping individuals from the foster care system transition into adulthood. Elsbeth does individual counseling with both children and adults, as well as couples and family counseling. She also enjoys leading groups, as she believes that individuals coming together with common experiences and struggles can gain great insight and learn from each other while creating a strong sense of comradery.

Elsbeth’s therapeutic approach relies heavily on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), with a particular focus on being trauma-informed. Additionally, she believes that play and hands-on visual aids are important when working with children. Elsbeth has an interest in the way that trauma manifests in individual’s bodies and affects the brain, and she finds it can be helpful to explain these concepts to clients who have been through difficult circumstances. Elsbeth aims to invite the client alongside a renewing journey where they are in control and feel totally comfortable navigating a unique experience to improve their mental health, and ultimately, daily life. Elsbeth’s office is a welcoming environment for all races, cultures, religions, abilities, and gender/sexual identities.
