Amber Zarger, LCSW

Amber Zarger is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and a Psychology Minor. While studying at Virginia Commonwealth University, she interned at Richmond Hope Therapy Center where she was helping children with disabilities. During this internship, Amber realized that she wanted to advocate and assist people in need. This started her career in social work.

Amber then started graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University for her Masters in Clinical Social Work. Where she also earned her Certificate in Gender Violence Intervention. During her time at Virginia Commonwealth University, Amber interned at The Mill House as a residential advisor intern and Commonwealth Catholic Charities as a counseling intern. At The Mill House, Amber worked with adults with traumatic brain injuries to promote the clients success in daily living, recreational activities, and vocational pursuits. While Amber was at Commonwealth Catholic Charities, she taught court mandated anger management and healthy relationship classes. These classes taught conflict resolution skills, built positive communication, assisted with emotions identification, and taught anger management reductions techniques.

After Amber graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, she was a Supervisee in Social Work at Lighthouse Behavioral Health Center. Amber provided mental health treatment to individuals ranging from 5 years and older with services such as Intensive In-Home Counseling, Mental Health Skill Building, and Parent Coaching.

Amber utilizes a range of approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, strength-based perspective, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness training, narrative therapy, and play therapy. Amber also has a passion for art therapy and other creative techniques.

Amber lives by the motto “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”
